Similar to an OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), the LANTEK 6 or LANTEK 7 equipped with a TRACETEK module adapter can produce "Traces" of Fiber cables. Traces are visual displays that identify events along a length of Fiber cable. Events are points at where light is reflected or absorbed by the fiber optic cable. An "up bump" in the trace indicates that light is being reflected. A "down bump" indicates an absorption of light. Examples of "down bumps" are micro-bends and fusion splices. Examples of "up-bumps" are the end-of-cable, a connector pair, a mechanical splice, and a change in fiber type (e.g. MM to SM).
